You Can't Say you don't like Halo. Even if you claim to dislike it, I know that somewhere deep down in your soul there's a little gravelly voice cheering its sticky plasma grenades, fun little vehicles and relatively unique take on combat You've had some good times with Master Chief, whether sitting on the floor in front of an Xbox with a mate or perhaps even with Gearbox's PC version of times past. I know that a fire has been lit somewhere deep in your heart - so take hold of my hand, look deep into my eyes and join me in exhaling a smidgen of that green metallic love.

Something you can say, though, is that there was no need to keep the PC community waiting three long years for a conversion. A conversion too that now appears dull and ageing, and what's more can only be run on a Vista platform bereft of anything else worth playing apart from Geometry Wars. That is, at least until the advent of DX10 and the whine of a million gamers opening their wallets and pouring coins into the cavernous maw of Bill Gates.But whatever you think about Vista, and whether you consider MS a risen messiah or a ruthless hijacker of fun, I think that while we're still holding hands (and we are still holding hands), we can all agree that releasing the ancient Halo 2 as a flagship title for both Vista and Games for Windows LIVE is a f***ing stupid idea.

Be My Halo

The bare bones of Halo 2 are great - its shooty, hidey gameplay, amusing physics and some genuinely excellent set-pieces (notably jumping onboard the giant spider mech in an otherwise barren attack on Earth) still get the adrenalin pumping. But due to the 'OMG - online multiplayer on Xbox! This is the future!' effect of its original launch, people tend to forget its multitude of sins.The dull, obtuse and nonsensical storyline (the low point of which is a Flood hive mind ripped straight from Little Shop Of Horrors), the sudden ending, the cop-out that was the Earth invasion, the crap bits where you play as an alien Arbiter, the endless retread of gameplay already done to death in the original... All getting in the way of action you can't help but feel affection for despite it all.

Stillapisser

Multiplayer is what sealed the deal with the living-room format, and all the old arenas and downloadable content resurface here -ready, willing and able for you to strap yourself into MS's bulky LIVE system and an undeniably giggle-packed game, despite a marked variation in quality as you pass between the 23 maps.The two new maps on offer (Uplift and District) are pretty intense - but, I'm sorry, if there are redeeming features in that one with the giant turbine that every bugger plays, then I've yet to find them. As for the persistent lack of co-op play on PC, well, that's just as unforgivable as it was last time around. Oh, and the menu systems pissed me off too - MS still seem convinced that everyone will be playing with one of their pads, and to get my mouse inverted (yes, I know), I had to traverse seven screens, which may not sound like much, but felt like I was ascending Kilimanjaro.

As for the graphics, well, I can't deny they're far crisper and cleaner than the Xbox version (you can increase the resolution and everything), but that doesn't stop them looking dated. I've always really liked the character models of the Halo menagerie, but even so, everything seems flat and lifeless compared to the efforts of every other shooter on the market.

Xrikey. What a kicking. Despite all this, though, what Halo boils down to - the same 30 seconds of decent action, repeated ad infinitum - is, while sometimes too repetitive, still great fun. Interiors are drab and lifeless, exteriors are often starkly beautiful; you shoot you jump, you hide, you win, you lose, you die, you laugh, you live once more.

The Halo template is not broken - but shell out cash for this and your spirits sure will be. You'll have fun, it'll make you smile, I won't deny it. But three years on, the Halo 2 Vista experience is as forgettable as it is tardy and somewhat depressing.

It’s a fairly standard online FPS shooter with regular PvP as well as a 100-player battle royale mode. The regular PvP includes the standard deathmatch along with some iterations. Players can also customize their gear and unlock more stuff. It’s relatively new compared to most FPS games but it’s already one of the biggest names in all of mobile gaming.

Critical Ops

Critical Ops is one of the newer FPS games. It’s technically still in public beta without a full release yet. In this one, you can choose to be part of an anti-terrorism unit and stop destruction or play as a terrorist and cause destruction. It features online multiplayer modes, leaderboards, and decent graphics to create a pretty complete overall experience. The game has evolved substantially from its early days and manages to be one of the truly great FPS games on Android not named PUBG Mobile or Fortnite.

Dead Effect 2

Dead Effect 2 is a sci-fi FPS game with elements of horror, survival, and RPG. You’ll play as the main character and you can choose one of three protagonists. Additionally, you’ll have tons of gear, weapons, and body implants to find and level up over the course of the game. It features more than 20 hours of campaign, and tons of options for upgrading. Of course, you’ll be leveling up your character as well. It has fantastic graphics as well. This is one of the better FPS games for players who enjoy story and campaign more than competitive matchmaking.

Hitman Sniper

Hitman: Sniper is one of the more unique FPS games. Your character is perched outside of a building, looking in with a sniper rifle. Your job is to take out the various targets without anyone getting suspicious about your location. The game contains over 150 missions, various sniper rifles to unlock, leaderboards, and it also has some strategy elements. It’s relatively inexpensive and can be a lot of fun if you prefer a bit more strategy rather than raw, super fast action.

Infinity Ops

Infinity Ops is one of the newer FPS games on mobile at the time of this writing. It launched under a different name and re-branded shortly afterward. It boasts a multiplayer online competitive experience in a sci-fi setting. The game features above average social features, clans, various in-game weapons, jet packs, and a variety of game modes. The graphics and mechanics are also quite good compared to most average FPS games. Most of the game’s feedback is surprisingly positive with the exception of those who run into bugs.

Into the Dead 2

Into the Dead 2 is one of the newer FPS games. It features a lot of the same mechanics from the first. You run through fields of zombies to survive. The player gets a ton of weapons to unlock and upgrade. This variant also includes some strategy elements and dog companions as well. The graphics are above average. It also plays well for being a mobile game and contains multiple endings. The game has a surprising amount of depth for being a mobile game. It’s a freemium game and that’s never ideal. However, it’s still an excellent FPS game.

Modern Combat 5 is among the most popular and mainstream FPS games on mobile. The game comes with some decent graphics, tons of content, online multiplayer, and more. Its popularity virtually guarantees that there is always someone online to play with or against. It also comes with a campaign mode, six different character classes that you can level up and customize, and support for hardware controllers. It all adds up to a very solid experience. These days, the game is even promoting itself as an eSport.

NOVA Legacy

NOVA Legacy is the latest title in a franchise of popular FPS games. It’s a sci-fi shooter that comes with a full campaign mode, decent graphics, several game modes, online multiplayer mode, and more. You can even craft and upgrade your weapons. Some of its tertiary features include leaderboards, character customizations, and death cam replays in multiplayer mode. It’s a freemium game. That makes it feel and play differently than its predecessors. Still, it’s among the best. Don’t believe its 20MB claim, though. it is much larger than that.

Fortnite is another excellent option in the same FPS sub-genre as PUBG Mobile. There are also some decent PUBG Mobile clones as well.
